Design and Implementation of a New Connection Admission Control Algorithm Using a Multistate Traffic Source Model

    Get PDF
This report develops a practical method for connection admission control in ATM networks. The method is based on a virtual cell loss probability criterion, is designed to handle heterogeneous traffic types and allows each traffic source to be described by an individual finite-state model with as many states as are needed to describe the source traffic. To make connection admission decisions with respect to individual links, an aggregate finite state model is computed from the individual models and used to estimate the virtual cell loss probabilities. To reduce the computational requirements for maintaining the aggregate traffic model, the aggregate model uses quantized data rates and is maintained incrementally using direct numerical convolution. The approximations required by the quantization process can be done in a strictly conservative way

Biology and management of the American lobster : June 1974 - December 1978

From June 1974 through October 1976, fourteen cruises were made on connnercial lobster trapping vessels off the mid-Atlantic coast. Catch per effort data were collected from 2308 traps, carapace size frequency distributions were formed and analyzed from measurements of over 3300 lobsters and information on quality was obtained from 5487 lobsters. Total catch per trap-haul (CTH) ranged from 0.64 lobsters in January 1976 to 4.5 lobsters in July 1976. (...more...

Thermodynamics of Nonstoichiometric Nickel Tellurides. II. Dissociation Pressures and Phase Relations of Tellurium‐Rich Compositions

Dissociation pressures of tellurium over liquid and solid nickel telluride solutions have been measured with a silica Bourdon gauge at compositions corresponding to NiTe1.5, NiTe1.7, NiTe1.9, NiTe2.0, and NiTe9 at temperatures up to 780°. Modifications of the manometric technique are described which permit accuracies of 0.1 mm pressure and 0.1° at high temperatures with corrosive substances where the pressure is sensitive to impurities or to composition changes. The results, together with data on the vapor pressure of pure tellurium, define the partial molal free energies and entropies of tellurium and, together with direct eutectic temperature measurement, delineate features of the phase diagram for compositions with more than 60 atomic percent tellurium.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/69856/2/JCPSA6-29-4-824-1.pd

Sex is always well worth its two-fold cost

    Get PDF
Sex is considered as an evolutionary paradox, since its evolutionary advantage does not necessarily overcome the two fold cost of sharing half of one's offspring's genome with another member of the population. Here we demonstrate that sexual reproduction can be evolutionary stable even when its Darwinian fitness is twice as low when compared to the fitness of asexual mutants. We also show that more than two sexes are always evolutionary unstable. Our approach generalizes the evolutionary game theory to analyze species whose members are able to sense the sexual state of their conspecifics and to switch sexes consequently. The widespread emergence and maintenance of sex follows therefore from its co-evolution with even more widespread environmental sensing abilities.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figure

Arrangement for solo mezzo-soprano or baritone voice with piano accompaniment of Ethelbert Nevin\u27s popular hymn The Rosary, with French and German translations of the lyrics. The lyrics were written by Robert Cameron Rogers, with the French translation by C. Eschig and German translation by Carl Engel. The song premiered in 1898. By 1928 it had sold over 2.6 million copies, making it one of the best selling pieces of sheet music of the period.https://ecommons.udayton.edu/imri_sheetmusic/1074/thumbnail.jp
